Enfermagem como opção: perfil de graduandos de duas instituições de ensino

This is a descriptive-exploratory study, aiming at comparing socioeconomic profile of students of two teaching institutions of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro and factors that interfere in their option to choose Nursing. The study was composed by 152 students of Institution (A) and 120 of (B) who were admitted to the undergraduate course in 2004 and 2005. The analysis evidenced that the majority belongs to middle and lower middle class and are young adults, single women. An expanding labor market and an opportunity of a better salary are the main factors that attract students of private schools to nursing career. It is important to the profession to be known in society and, especially, among students who search for a professional option, considering the lack of information of students who are admitted to the Nursing undergraduate course.Estudo descritivo-exploratorio, com objetivo de comparar o perfil socio-economico e fatores que interferem na opcao pela enfermagem dos alunos de duas instituicoes de ensino no municipio do Rio de Janeiro. Participaram 152 alunos da instituicao (A) e 120 da (B) que ingressaram na graduacao em 2004 e 2005. A analise evidenciou que em sua maioria sao adultos jovens, mulheres, solteiras, pertencem as classes B e C. O mercado de trabalho em expansao e a oportunidade de uma remuneracao melhor sao fatores que atraem o alunado da faculdade particular para enfermagem. A divulgacao da profissao junto a sociedade e, especialmente, entre os alunos que buscam uma opcao profissional torna-se relevante, considerando a desinformacao daqueles que ingressam na graduacao em enfermagem.

Estilos de administração do conflito entre enfermeiros(as): validação de instrumento

The present study has as an object the modalities of conflict administration adopted by nurses in professional praxis. Considering the Management Grid Theory (BLAKE & MOUNTON, 1978), the conflict can be solved in different levels of quality or even, not solved, influenced by the manager behavior model. It is intended to identify nurses managing styles in conflict administration, analyzing their interactions. A questionnaire composed with 25 items, in its majority of popular adagios which express the five basic models of the Management Grid, has been tested. The research was run at the Rio de Janeiro State University Pedro Ernesto University Hospital from June, 1996 to August, 1997, and descriptive method and check-list schedule type functional analysis technique have been used. The factorial analysis of items has showed an occurrence of eight interdependent factors which designing the following styles that have been adopted by nurses: confrontation, negotiation, facing, conciliation, manipulation, acceptance, submission and withdrawing. Práticas sexuais, uso do preservativo e testagem para o hiv entre graduandos de enfermagem

Aim: to identify sexual practices, condom use and the realization of diagnostic test for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among nursing students. Method: descriptive study with quantitative approach and sample for convenience. The scenario was two college institutions located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The participants were 250 nursing students. Data collection was performed with the help of a questionnaire during the months of April 2013, to April 2014. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics. Results: 73,6% of the participants reported having sex, 58,2% always have safe sex, 50,6% use condoms in stable relationships, 89,1% use condoms with casual partners, and 44,8% did the HIV diagnostic test. Conclusion: it is necessary to invest in health education with nursing undergraduates to adopt preventive sexual behaviors against HIV.

El uso del preservativo entre los participantes del Carnaval - perspectiva de género

Objective: This study has the purpose of identifying the use of condoms among men and women who participate in Carnival. Methods: Descriptive research with a quantitative nature using a sample according to convenience. The subjects were spectators, partygoers and workers present in the carnival parade at Sambadrome, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Data were collected in February of 2013, with 1067 respondents, by using a form. The analysis was performed using EpiInfo program. Results: Men use and have in-hand condoms in their day by day more often than women, they agree with the statements that the condom interferes in the sexual relation, they are more impulsive and tend to be expose themselves to risk situations. Conclusion: Inequality between the sexes and the hegemonic normative of male gender prevails in our society and contributes to the vulnerability of men and women.

Significado da profissão para alunos que ingressam na graduação em Enfermagem

Estudio cualitativo con objetivo de describir el significado de la profesion para los estudiantes del primero periodo de Facultad de Enfermeria. Una entrevista estructurada fue aplicada a 33 estudiantes de Enfermeria del primero periodo de una universidad publica de Rio de Janeiro en 2006, respetando los principios eticos. El analisis tematico verifico que, al ingresar en la profesion, el estudiante visualiza la enfermera como el profesional que se ocupa de los clientes, tiene una vision restricta al cuidado asistencial y el asocia su practica a las situaciones de dedicacion, atencion y amor. Clarificar a estudiantes del nivel medio en el oficio de enfermera, el mercado del trabajo y las areas del funcionamiento de la enfermera podria estimular la busqueda de la profesion por personas conscientes cuanto a su opcion.This qualitative study aimed to describe the meaning of the profession to beginners in a Nursing undergraduate course. A structured interview was administered to 33 students of the first semester in a public university in Rio de Janeiro, in 2006. Ethical principles were respected. The thematic analysis revealed that, when entering the profession, the students visualize nurses as the professional who takes care of clients, in a restricted view of care, and associate Nursing practice to situations of dedication, care and love. Significado de la profesión para estudiantes que ingresan al curso de Enfermería
