Metassíntese qualitativa: desenvolvimento e contribuições para a prática baseada em evidências

Metasynthesis is an emergent technique to synthesize qualitative research findings. Besides conceptual and methodological controversies, methasynthesis has the potential to contribute for evidence-based practice. In the last decade, several publications addressed the relevance of this and other techniques to synthesize qualitative research findings. Buscando mobilizar-se para a vida apesar da dor ou da amputação

Aim: to understand how patients cope with the consequences of the chronic obstructive arterial disease. Methods: Symbolic Interaction and Grounded Theorie served as theoretical frameworks for this study. Ten individuals with chronic obstructive arterial disease participated in the study. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed with the technique of comparative analysis. Results: Three themes emerged: having life restricted by pain, feeling overwhelmed, and trying to overcome barriers to normal life. The central element subsidizing patients’ decisions, feelings, and behaviors, indicated that they are always symbolically and concretely TRYING TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE IN SPITE OF PAIN OR AMPUTATION . Final considerations: the results of this study may expand nurses’ knowledge about patients’ experience with chronic obstructive arterial disease. This knowledge will increase nurses’ competency to perform a comprehensive psychosocial assessment and intervene appropriately.Aim: to understand how patients cope with the consequences of the chronic obstructive arterial disease. The cancer and its treatment and its impact on the patients’ life. A qualitative study

Background: Offering the best level of comfort and quality of life as possible is one of the goals of nursing care for cancer patients and their family, for both the diagnosis and the treatment of cancer still causes great apprehension and suffering. Purpose: Understanding the effects of cancer and its treatment on the different dimensions of the patients’ life. Methods: Descriptive study, developed under a qualitative approach, carried out from June to August 2005 with cancer patients of the Chemotherapy Ambulatory of the Sao Paulo Hospital, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A semi-structured interview form was used for data collection and content analysis was applied in order to identify the thematic units. Results: Three themes emerged from patients’ reports: suffering the disease’s shock; re-dimensioning life; and feeling the need of a sensitive care. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need of implementing the humanization principles of nursing care when assisting cancer patients and their families. REFLEXIONES ACERCA DE LOS ACTORES COADYUVANTES DE LA EXPERIENCIA DE LA ENFERMERA RECIEN FORMADA

Este estudio presenta reflexiones sobre la funcion de los profesores y de los integrantes del equipo de enfermeria, en la experiencia de cuidar de la enfermera recien graduada. Fueron utilizadas como evidencias para las reflexiones, los constructos teoricos generados por un estudio cualitativo destinado a comprender la experiencia de la enfermera recien recibida y la experiencia de cuidar recibida con foco para el cuidado. Considerando la trayectoria emprendida por la enfermera en la construccion del cuidar, donde los profesores y equipo provocan impacto significativo, estas reflexiones indican los aspectos que refuerzan la necesidad de que los involucrados en este contexto deben repensar una nueva percepcion de si mismo, del otro y del cuidado para componer una realidad favorable al desarrollo tanto de la iniciante (los cien graduados) como de todos los involucradosRESUMOEste estudo apresenta reflexoes sobre o papel dos professores e dos integrantes da equipe de enfermagem naexperiencia de cuidar da enfermeira recem-formada. Foram utilizadas como evidencias para estas reflexoes, osconstrutos teoricos gerados de um estudo qualitativo destinado a compreender a experiencia da enfermeirarecem-formada, tendo como foco o cuidado. Internacionalização do saber- fazer da Enfermagem

This editorial was written based on the answers we received from several nursing professionalsto the following questions: How important is internationalization for the nursing know-and-do? 2.What makes internationalization difficult? 3. What are the paths toward internationalization?Therefore, we would first like to thank Doctor Professors Alacoque Lorenzini Erdmann, HelenM. Castillo, Lorita Marlena Freitag Pagliuca, Maria Helena Palucci Marziale, Maria MAErcia Bachion,and Paulino Artur F. de Sousa for their prompt reply. Their answers supported our reflections,which we now share with nurses, emphasizing, in these interviews, the statements we considerpriority for an editorial.Most interviewees stated that since nursing is inserted in a world that is becoming more andmore interdependent, and following a tendency toward globalization, it has had a more active,interdependent, autonomous, and pro-active intervention regarding its knowledge dissemination.The idea of globalization implies an action of projecting from inside, which, in turn, implies aneffective capacity to mobilize and implement national resources in international contexts andterritories; that is, increase the reference area for nurses. Regarding nursing in Brazil, an additionalimpulse toward achieving internationalization should be assigned to the evaluation process inpostgraduate programs, which implies this movement has an important role in those programs.The internationalization of nursing know-and-do provides a useful flow of knowledge andactivities among countries. This contributes to sharing ideas and practices, and, thus, broadensthe horizons in nursing, working as an open system, more capable of answering the profession™sinternal and external needs.Most interviewees consider the process of universal knowledge dissemination produced by theBrazilian nurses to be indispensible for the internationalization of nursing know-and-do, whichbasically originates from publications in Brazilian serials indexed in databases that allow internationalaccess or by publications by national authors in foreign serials also included in the data bases ofbroad dissemination.The difficulties to mobilize this process, as reported by the interviewees, include various aspects.These aspects range from the selection of themes linked to contemporary needs and integrated tothe nursing profession to beyond its geographic boundaries, becoming more attractive for theeditors of foreign serials, passing by studies with unquestionably rigorous methodological outlines,and surpassing the diagnoses stage, to the restriction in reading and writing in the English language.On the other hand, the participants reflect about the scarcity of centers that develop strategiccategories to promote the internationalization of nursing know-and-do, as well as about theinexistence of mechanisms to share this information with colleagues.Therefore, internationalization is a great challenge for nursing, because it implies having tobalance the idea of the external validation that is produced and the need that nurses have tofollow the technological/scientific development to fully accomplish the practice of a professionthat implies being capable to meet the various people™s needs, in various spheres and contexts.Among the strategies used to overcome the current challenges, the interviewees recommendedinterchange programs and a more effective collaboration between national and internationalresearchers, socializing opportunities and dissemination of the impact brought by the findings. Inthis sense, national authors should make an effort to deepen the analysis and discussions of theirresearch findings, as well as to clarify their implications on the different conjectures. This way, ourproducts would become more attractive for the international audience, which does not imply thelack of social sensitivity for specific problems.Participants reported that the strategies used to overcome these obstacles address the

Meaning of living with external fixation for grade III open fracture of lower limbs: patient view

O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender o significado de conviver com fixacao externa por fratura exposta grau III em membros inferiores, sob o olhar do paciente. Os dados foram coletados com seis adultos jovens que faziam tratamento ambulatorial ortopedico, em um hospital publico da cidade de Sao Paulo, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada com questoes abertas, entre junho e agosto de 2010. Na busca do significado desta vivencia, mantivemos uma atitude fenomenologica na analise, o que propiciou desvelar o fenomeno “buscar viver apesar de se sentir preso em uma gaiola”. Os pacientes apontam que e o desejo pessoal e apoio de outras pessoas que propiciam a reorganizacao de suas vidas, apesar dos inumeros desafios que precisam superar para adaptarem-se ao fixador acoplado ao seu corpo, do medo que sentem em relacao ao futuro e das duvidas quanto ao tratamento.
