Vitamin D plus calcium supplementation increased serum 25(OH)D on reproductive age women workers

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze the efficacy of calcium supplementation plus vitamin D on the improved concentrations of serum 25(OH)D and the blood pressure in working women of childbearing age. Methods The design used in this research was an experimental study (randomized control trial), with 39 subjects of women at childbearing age who met the inclusion criteria for the study. Subjects were randomly allocated into two treatment groups, the VDC group (400 IU of vitamin D plus 500 mg of calcium) and the VD group (400 IU of vitamin D). Supplements were consumed every day for 12 weeks. Results Prior to supplementation, the average level of serum 25(OH)D in the VDC group was (16.7 ± 4.5) ng/dL which was higher than the average level of serum 25(OH)D in the VD group which was (14.9 ± 5.1) ng/dL. After supplementation, the subjects of VDC group showed an average increased 3.6 ng/dL of serum 25(OH)D. The average increase of serum 25(OH)D in VD group was 6.3 ng/dL. The increase of serum 25(OH)D in VDC group was 21.6%, while in the VD group the increase was almost two times higher (42.3%) than that of the VDC group. Statistical test results showed that the average levels of serum 25(OH)D between the two treatment groups were significantly different. Conclusions The average systolic blood pressure prior to supplementation of the VDC group was (128.5 ± 22.5) mmHg which was slightly lower than that of the VD group [(131.1 ± 18.0) mmHg].

Nutritional Status of Lactating Women In Bogor District, Indonesia: Cross-Sectional Dietary Intake In Three Economic Quintiles And Comparison With Pre-Pregnant Women

The way in which women accommodate for their increased nutritional needs during the lactation period is poorly investigated. In a cross-sectional study involving 220 lactating women (LW), equally distributed in economic quintiles (Q2, Q3, Q4), we investigated whether habitual dietary intake of LW differed from that of 200 pre-pregnant women (PPW) studied using the same methodology. Differences in dietary intake and nutrition sufficiency according to economic status were also investigated. Dietary intake data were collected using 2×24-h dietary recalls and FFQ. Energy, protein, Fe, Ca, Zn and vitamins A and C intakes were calculated utilising local food composition tables and were compared against Indonesian recommendations for adequacy. Energy and protein intakes 25 % of LW. For Q2-LW, this proportion was >50 %, except for protein. LW across all studied economic quintiles approximately doubled their vegetable intake, and 71 % of LW indicated a belief that this enhances lactation performance. Biochemical status parameters were analysed in a subset of forty-five women. Anaemia as well as Fe, Zn and Se deficiencies were prevalent among LW, supporting the nutrient intake deficiency data. Despite increasing intakes in LW compared with PPW, habitual diets in the study area do not provide for daily nutrient requirements in substantial proportions for both LW and PPW across all investigated economic groups.

Nutritional status of pre-pregnant and pregnant women residing in Bogor district, Indonesia: a cross-sectional dietary and nutrient intake study.

The diet of Indonesian women of childbearing age is relatively poor, posing increased risk for suboptimal pregnancy outcome. In a cross-sectional study including 403 women in three economic quintiles (Q), we investigated differences in dietary intake and nutrition sufficiency according to economic status and whether regular dietary intakes of pregnant women (PW, n 203) differ from that of pre-pregnant women (PPW, n 200). Dietary intake data were collected using 2×24 h dietary recall and FFQ. Energy, protein, Fe, Ca, Zn, vitamin A and vitamin C intakes were calculated utilising Food Composition Tables and compared with Indonesian recommendations for adequacy. Energy and protein intakes <70 % and Fe, Ca, Zn, vitamin A and vitamin C intakes <77 % of the local recommendation were considered insufficient. A higher intake of milk/dairy products (Q3, Q4), fruits and vegetables (Q2) and snacks (Q3) in PW was observed compared with PPW, but insufficient to meet nutrient requirements. Nutrient intake calculations showed insufficiency in 26 % of PPW for protein and up to 70 % for Fe. Deficient nutrient intakes in PW were found in 49 % of the subjects for energy and up to 85 % for Fe. Energy and protein intakes decreased with decreasing economic quintiles in PPW and PW. Ca and vitamin A intakes were lower in Q2 compared with Q4. The proportion of animal protein in Q2-PW was low (31 %). Biochemical status parameters in a subset showed that anaemia and Fe and Zn deficiencies were prevalent among PPW and PW. Habitual diets in the study area did not meet the nutrient requirements for both PPW and PW across the investigated economic groups.

PENILAIAN KROMIUM SERUM DARAH PADA PENYANDANG DIABETES MELLITUS TIPE 2 DAN NON DIABETES

Diabetes mellitus tipe 2 merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan dunia. Berdasarkan survei Riskesdas 2013, prevalensi dari diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Indonesia pada usia 15 tahun atau lebih adalah 6.9%. Prevalensi yang tinggi dapat dipicu oleh diet yang kurang sehat dan rendahnya aktivitas fisik. Kromium dalam hal ini sebagai mineral mikro yang memiliki peran dalam menjaga homeostasis glukosa darah diduga memiliki fungsi dalam meningkatkan respon insulin. Penelitan ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara aktivitas fisik, tingkat kecukupan energi dan zat gizi, dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa dan HbA1c. Desain penelitian ini adalah survei potong lintang dengan subjek penyandang diabetes tipe 2 sebanyak 42 orang dan subjek normal sebanyak 49 orang. Kriteria inklusi adalah pria atau wanita normal atau penyandang diabetes usia 50-65 tahun, sudah menopause untuk wanita minimal 1 tahun, dan bersedia mengikuti penelitian dengan menandatangani informed concent. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Cr serum darah pada penyandang diabetes lebih rendah dibandingkan pada subjek normal. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara HbA1c dengan IMT, lingkar pinggang, aktivitas fisik, Cr serum darah, dan tingkat kecukupan serat. Tingkat kecukupan Cr berpengaruh signifikan terhadap HbA1c. Tingkat Cr serum HbA1C (r = -0.466, p<0.01). kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah rendahnya tingkat Cr serum darah diduga menjadi salah satu penyebab berkembangnya diabetes mellitus tipe 2.

PENGETAHUAN, PERSEPSI, DAN SIKAP IBU HAMIL TERHADAP KLAIM GIZI KAITANNYA DENGAN KEPUTUSAN PEMBELIAN PRODUK SUSU IBU HAMIL

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to analyze difference and compare the determinants of stunting among under five years children considering different ecosystem in Kupang. It is an observational study using case control of under five children with and without stunting. There were 132 subjects chosen from lowland, middleland region, and mountainous ecosystem zones. Data was analyzed using Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis. The analysis resumes that determinants of stunting in lowland area is energy intake (p=0.002; OR=0.059; 95%CI:0.010-0.359), energy intake is a protective factor, in the middleland region is love and cares (p=0.002; OR=9.247; 95%CI:2.213-38.644) and sanitation (p=0.046; OR=2.832; 95%CI:1.020-7.860). Furthermore, the environmental sanitation as the factor in mountainous area (p=0.034; OR=3.978; 95%CI:1.112-14.230). The impact of stunting if left untreated will cause problems for generation in the future, for example impairment of mental development and physical growth, and it will end in poverty and the threat of life survival, so it need a proper intervention to handle it. Keywords: determinants, ecosystem zone, stunting ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis gambaran dan membandingkan pengaruh variabel faktor penentu stunting anak balita pada berbagai zona ekosistem di Kabupaten Kupang. Jenis penelitian menggunakan desain observational dengan rancangan case control antara kelompok balita stunting dan normal. Jumlah subjek penelitian ini sebanyak 132 subjek yang terbagi pada tiga zona ekosistem dataran rendah, dataran sedang, dan pegunungan pada bulan Maret 2015. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Analisis Regresi Logistik Berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan faktor penentu stunting pada zona ekosistem di Kabupaten Kupang adalah sanitasi lingkungan (p=0,002; OR=2,307; 95%CI:0,120-0,721), dan kejadian sakit (p=0,007; OR=0,294; 95%CI:0,120-0,721); di zona ekosistem dataran rendah adalah asupan energi (p=0,002; OR=0,059; 95%CI:0,010-0,359) asupan energi sebagai faktor protektif; di zona dataran sedang adalah praktik kasih sayang (p=0,002; OR=9,247; 95%CI:2,213-38,644) dan sanitasi lingkungan (p=0,046; OR=2,832; 95%CI:1,020-7,860) dan di zona eksosistem pegunungan adalah sanitasi lingkungan (p=0,034; OR=3,978; 95%CI:1,112-14,230). Dampak yang ditimbulkan dari stunting jika tidak ditangani akan menimbulkan permasalahan bagi generasi di masa mendatang misalnya perkembangan mental dan pertumbuhan fisik terganggu, dan berakhir pada kemiskinan dan ancaman kelangsungan hidup sehingga memerlukan intervensi yang tepat dalam penanganannya. FREKUENSI SENAM AEROBIK INTENSITAS SEDANG BERPENGARUH TERHADAP LEMAK TUBUH PADA MAHASISWI IPB

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the determinant factors that influence the breakfast habits in children in public primary schools in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta. The cross-sectional study was applied. The subject was selected in random sampling. Subjects were 300 students in grade 3,4, and 5 in SDN 03, 04, 09, and 10 Pondok Labu, South Jakarta. The analysis performed using chi-square analysis and multivariate logistic regression. The results showed that the breakfast habits of primary school children by 71.7% with a median energy of 246 kcal. The results showed a significant correlation between breakfast habits of the sexes, the availability of breakfast and breakfast nutrition knowledge (p<0.05). The school children breakfast was significantly affected by nutritional knowledge (p<0.05). Desain penelitian ini adalah cross sectional dengan penarikan subjek secara random sampling. Subjek berjumlah 300 siswa kelas 3, 4, dan 5 di SDN 03, 04, 09, dan 10 Pondok Labu, Jakarta Selatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kebiasaan sarapan pada anak sekolah dasar sebesar 71,7% dengan median energi sarapan sebesar 246 kkal.
