Objective: To describe defensive strategies used by nursing workers in pediatric oncology towards suffering at work. Methodology: A qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study was carried out in 2013 with 20 nursing workers of pediatric oncology at a teaching hospital. The techniques of non-participant observation and focus group were used to produce the data, which were submitted to thematic analysis. Results: Some of the individual strategies identified were conformity, distancing from the experience with children, rationalization, and refuge in pleasurable moments. Furthermore, group strategies were pointed out, such as speaking and listening, coming together as a work group, redefining suffering, and the search for a new meaning in life. Conclusions: Spaces for speaking and listening can enable the sharing of experiences of suffering, helping workers to recognize defensive strategies and strengthen resistance actions.

Alexa Pupiara Flores Coelho; Carmem Lúcia Colomé Beck; Rosângela Marion da Silva

Aim: to describe the production of knowledge in Brazilian theses and dissertations, regarding the application of the Convergent-Care Research (CCR) in the field of Occupational Health. Method: narrative review conducted in 2017 in the catalogs of theses and dissertations of the Brazilian Nursing Association and the Bank of Thesis and Dissertations of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Level Personnel. We analyzed, by the similarities among themes, seven dissertations that applied CCR in Occupational Health. Results: different references and theoretical frameworks with theoreticalphilosophical affinity with historical-dialectical materialism were cited. The data were produced, mainly, through interviews and group techniques. Some dissertations presented weaknesses in the assistance dimension. Conclusion: the CCR was little explored by the field of Workers Health, although the dissertations show the potential of this method in meeting the demands of the workers.

Francine Cassol Prestes; Carmem Lúcia Colomé Beck; Tânia Solange Bosi de Souza Magnago; Rosângela Marion da Silva; Alexa Pupiara Flores Coelho

Objective The aim was to measure work-related health problems among nursing workers at a haemodialysis unit in southern Brazil and associate these issues with the socio-occupational characteristics of the workers. Method This is a qualitative study conducted with 46 nursing workers. Data were collected using a general health questionnaire with socio-occupational information and a work-related health assessment scale. The data were subjected to descriptive, correlational, bivariate analysis with significance levels of 5% using Epi-info® and Predictive Analytics Software. Results Physical, psychological, and social problems were considered bearable, and job satisfaction was associated with current income and work absenteeism for health treatment (p< 0.05). Back pain (3.74 ± 2.04) and leg pain (3.48 ± 2.10) were considered severe. There was a direct correlation between the health issues (r> 0.31, p <0.05). Conclusion In spite of the positive results of the work-related health assessment among the studied population, the results confirm the need to promote the health of nursing workers.
