The objective of this study was to understand the meaning that the nurses working in the Family Health Strategy assign to the nursing consultation in child care. The theoretical framework was Symbolic Interactionism, and the methodological was the Grounded Theory. Data collection was performed with seven nurses by means of a semi-structured interview and participant observation. The comparative data analysis identified the conceptual category: Promoting individual and collective changes by means of comprehensive care. It was found that nurses value the nursing consultation in child care, they consider it important and acknowledge its potential to promote significant comprehensive changes regarding children, their families, and in the context of the community, in the preventive as well as in the curative aspect, and thus they feel fulfilled. Nevertheless, nurses deal with personal and structural difficulties, and are affected by the beliefs, values and social conditions of the assisted population, and, therefore, recognize they need better preparation to perform this activity.The objective of this study was to understand the meaning that the nurses working in the Family Health Strategy assign to the nursing consultation in child care. OBJETIVO: Este estudo descritivo objetivou avaliar o processo desenvolvido nas consultas de enfermagem prestadas as criancas ate um ano de idade em Unidades Basicas de Saude no Programa de Saude da Familia do Municipio de Sao Paulo, considerando os conhecimentos tecnico-cientificos aplicados na implementacao das acoes basicas de saude propostas pelo Ministerio da Saude. O referencial teorico foi ancorado na abordagem de processo da concepcao sistemica da avaliacao de servicos de saude. METODOS: Foi realizada a observacao sistematizada de 114 consultas de enfermagem prestadas as criancas por 14 enfermeiras, utilizando-se um instrumento, contemplando criterios avaliativos validados por 11 especialistas. RESULTADOS: Nas consultas observadas, as enfermeiras implementaram essas acoes de forma adequada, carecendo, no entanto, de complementacoes. CONCLUSAO: O processo assistencial, embora desenvolvido adequadamente, requer ajustes de facil resolucao em alguns procedimentos, a fim de abranger aspectos essenciais a saude da crianca nas unidades selecionadas do Programa de Saude da Familia.Objective: This descriptive study has objectified to evaluate the process developed in the nursing consultations given to the children up to one year of age in Basic Units of Health of the Family Health Program of São Paulo City, considering the application of technical scientific knowledge in the implementation of the basic actions of health proposed for the Ministry of Health. Method: It was carried through systemize comment of 114 nursing consultations given to the children, for 14 nurses, using itself an instrument, contemplating evaluated criterion been valid for 11 specialists. Results: In the observed consultations, nurses had implemented these actions of adjusted form, lacking, however, of complementation. This was a descriptive, retrospective study, with a quantitative method, with the aim of analyzing the nursing diagnoses contained in the records of children of 0 to 36 months of age who attended infant health nursing consults. A documentary analysis and the cross-mapping technique were used. One hundred eighty-eight different nursing diagnoses were encountered, of which 33 (58.9%) corresponded to diagnoses contained in the Nomenclature of Nursing Diagnoses and Interventions and 23 (41.1%) were derived from ICNP® Version 1.0. Of the 56 nursing diagnoses, 43 (76.8%) were considered to be deviations from normalcy. It was concluded that the infant health nursing consults enabled the identification of situations of normalcy and abnormality, with an emphasis on the diagnoses of deviations from normalcy. Standardized language favors nursing documentation, contributing to the care of the patient and facilitating communication between nurses and other health professionals.Estudo descritivo e retrospectivo, com abordagem quantitativa, que objetivou analisar os diagnosticos de enfermagem constantes de prontuarios de criancas de 0 a 36 meses de idade atendidas em consulta de enfermagem em puericultura. Utilizou-se a analise documental e a tecnica de mapeamento cruzado. Foram encontrados 188 diferentes diagnosticos de enfermagem, dos quais 33 (58,9%) correspondiam a diagnosticos contidos na Nomenclatura de Diagnosticos e Intervencoes de Enfermagem e 23 (41,1%) eram provenientes da CIPE® Versao 1.0. Dos 56 diagnosticos de enfermagem, 43 (76,8%) foram considerados de desvio de normalidade. Conclui-se que as consultas de enfermagem a crianca permitem identificar situacoes de normalidade e anormalidade, com destaque para os diagnosticos de desvio de normalidade. A padronizacao da linguagem favorece a documentacao de enfermagem, contribuindo para o cuidado ao paciente e facilitando a comunicacao entre os enfermeiros e outros profissionais de saude.
