Performance assessment of optical packet switching system with burst-mode receivers for intra-data center networks

We investigate the performance of a burst-mode receiver in an optical packet switching system. Experimental results indicate that a preamble of 25.6ns allows error-free operation of 10Gb/s asynchronous switched packets with 8dB dynamic range and 25ns minimum guard-time.

A 40-GBd QPSK/16-QAM integrated silicon coherent receiver

Through co-design of a dual SiGe transimpedance amplifier and an integrated silicon photonic circuit, we realized for the first time an ultra-compact and low-power silicon single-polarization coherent receiver operating at 40 GBd. A bit-error rate of <;3.8 × 10-3 was obtained for an optical signal-to-noise ratio of 14 dB for QPSK modulation (80 Gb/s), and 26.5 dB for 16-QAM (160 Gb/s). We also demonstrate robust performance of the receiver over temperature and wavelength.

28 Gb/s direct modulation heterogeneously integrated InP/Si DFB laser

We report for the first time the 28 Gb/s direct modulation of heterogeneously integrated III-V-on_Silicon DFB laser. Transmission experiments using 1km of standard single mode fiber were also performed and gave a 4.3 dB penalty at a bitrate of 25 Gb/s.

We report the design, fabrication and verification of a single-polarization silicon coherent receiver with a low-power linear TIA array. Error-free operation assuming FEC is shown at bitrates of 112 Gbit/s (28 Gbaud 16-QAM) and 56 Gbit/s (28 Gbaud QPSK).
