Ultrastructural Changes in the Kidney Cortex of Rats Treated with Lead Acetate

El proposito de este estudio fue investigar los efectos ultraestructurales del plomo en la corteza renal. Ratas Wistar albinas (180-200g de peso corporal) fueron divididas en grupo control y grupo experimental. Las ratas recibieron 500 ppm de acetato de plomo en el agua potable durante 60 dias. Ambos grupos fueron alimentados con el mismo alimento estandar, pero acetato de plomo se le anadio al agua potable al grupo experimental. Durante el periodo experimental, se tomaron bajo anestesia muestras sanguineas desde la parte abdominal de la aorta. Al final de la exposicion, fueron medidos el peso corporal y los niveles de plomo en la sangre. Fueron preparadas las muestras de tejido renal y se analizaron mediante microscopia de luz y electronica de transmision. Los tubulos renales corticales mostraron varios cambios degenerativos con necrosis tubular focal invadida por celulas inflamatorias. Las alteraciones ultraestructurales encontradas en las ratas tratadas con acetato de plomo correspondieron a una disminucion en la cantidad de ranuras de filtracion, aumento de la fusion de los procesos podales en las celulas epiteliales de los glomerulos, aumento de la estructura lisosomal y las vesiculas pinociticas, asi como grandes mitocondrias en las celulas del tubulo proximal.

The Prophylactic Effects of Folic Acid and Vitamin E against Valproic Acid During Fetal Thymus Development: an Ultrastructural Study

Se realizo este estudio para evaluar las diferencias histopatologicas en el timo de fetos de ratas Wistar Albinas expuestas prenatalmente a acido valproico (VPA), acido folico (AF) y vitamina E (Vit-E). VPA (400 mg/kg), FA (400 mcg/kg) y vitamina E (250mg/kg) administradas a ratas en los dias 8, 9 y 10 de gestacion. Los fetos (n=24) fueron divididos en cuatro grupos: control, APV, APV + vitamina E y VPA + FA. En el dia 20 de gestacion, todas las ratas prenadas fueron sacrificadas y los fetos fueron extraidos. Se obtuvieron secciones delgadas del timo de los fetos y se tineron con citrato de uranilo - acetato de plomo, siendo examinados al microscopio electronico de transmision. Los hallazgos histopatologicos del grupo control fueron normales. En el grupo VPA, se observaron cambios degenerativos en todos los compartimentos de tejido en comparacion con los controles. En el grupo VPA+FA, las vacuolas, cristalisis mitocondrial e inflamacion se redujeron en el citoplasma. En grupo VPA + Vitamina E, se observo el almacenamiento de lipidos y vacuolizacion. La cristalisis mitocondrial disminuyo. El estudio permitio analizar los cambios histopatologicos que pueden ocurrir en un modelo experimental de alto riesgo despues de la administracion de VPA, ademas, las funciones de proteccion por la administracion de AF y vitamina E.

Effects of Formaldehyde and Vimentin Expression in Rat Skin

En este ensayo se utilizaron ratas Wistar (9 semanas de edad, 180-200 g de peso corporal) que se dividieron en dos grupos de 16 animales cada uno (grupos control y experimental). Los animales del grupo experimental fueron colocados en un vaso de vidrio de tamano 100x65x100. Durante un periodo de tiempo de 8 semanas, 5 dias a la semana con 8 horas se expuso a la inhalacion de 10 ppm de formaldehido. Se retiro la piel y se coloco en formalina al 10%. Las secciones fueron tenidas con Hematoxilina-Eosina y Tricromico de Masson, y fueron observadas al microscopio optico. Las tecnicas histopatologicas e inmunohistoquimicas y el impacto en la piel provocado por el formaldehido permitieron examinar la expresion de vimentina.

Protective Effects of Melatonin on Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury causes neuron nerve fiber loss. The aim of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective, inflammatory and angiogenetic effects of melatonin on rat spinal cord injury (SCI). For spinal cord injury, a standard weight reduction method was used that caused moderate severity of injury (100 g / cm force) at T10 Melatonin (10 mg/kg intraperitoneally ) was administered for 10 days after trauma. Each group consisted of 10 animals. of these, six were used for biochemical and four were used for th e evaluation of histological analysis. Spinal cord samples were taken for histological examination or determination of malondiald ehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. Spinal cord injury and melatonin treated group were compared. Melatonin administration in spinal cord injury increased the activity of glial cells in the radial and funicular cells and epen dymal cells and increased the activity of glial cells and also showed a positive ef fect on inflammation and vascular endothelial cells in s ynaptic connections in the nerve fibers undergoing spinal injury endothelial degeneration It is thought that it can regulate the degenerative ef fect which is caused by both the inflammatory effect and the angiogenic effect which will have a positive effect on the neural connection.

Genetics Analysis with Down Syndrome and Histopathological Examination of Buccal Epithelial Cells

El sindrome de Down es causado principalmente por la trisomia del cromosoma 21. Se revisaron los estudios citogeneticos realizados en 1.048 pacientes que fueron remitidos a la Unidad de Citogenetica del Dicle University Hospital, Diyarbakir, sudeste de Turquia, entre los anos 2000 y 2009. Los casos se agruparon de acuerdo a la razon de referencia para el analisis citogenetico. Las frecuencias mas altas de cariotipos anormales se encontraron ent los casos que fueron remitidos por sospecha de sindrome de Down (84,8%). Para el estudio histologico de las personas con y sin sindrome de Down, se realizo el frotis de mucosa oral por hisopado. Los grupos con sindrome de Down y de control (sin sindrome) se compararon estadisticamente en relacion a las celulas epiteliales orales y los nucleos (p <0,05). Se observaron nucleos perifericos en algunos pacientes con sindrome de Down, mientras que estructuras de tipo brotes en la forma de micronucleos se observaron en las celulas carioliticas.

An increase of elastic tissue fibers in blood vessel walls of placental stem villi and differences in the thickness of blood vessel walls in third trimester pre-eclampsia pregnancies

This study has goals of examining whether pre-eclampsia may lead to an increase of elastic tissue fibers in blood vessel walls of placental stem villi or whether there are differences in the thickness of blood vessel walls within these villi when compared to normotensive pregnant women. Non-infarcted placental tissue samples from 28 participants with uncomplicated pregnancies and 26 patients with pre-eclampsia were obtained. After routine histological procedures, the sections were processed either for conventional Verhoeff staining for the demonstration of elastic fiber system. Paraffine sections from placenta biopsies prepared for light microscopic examination were gathered. In uncomplicated pregnancies, terminal villi blood vessels were observed with no stained elastic tissue fibers in most areas. In the pre-eclampsia pregnancy of human placenta, the elastic fibers significiantly increased in terminal villi blood vessel walls which were dark in color, using Verhoeff’s tissue stain, when comparing with the uncomplicated pregnancy group. Our results indicate that an increase of elastic tissue fibers in blood vessels of placental stem villus and terminal villi, and also an increase of wall thickness during pre-eclampsia.
