Work ability in nursing: relationship with psychological demands and control over the work

OBJETIVO: avaliar a associacao entre demandas psicologicas, controle sobre o trabalho e a reducao da capacidade para o trabalho em trabalhadores de enfermagem. METODO: estudo transversal, envolvendo 498 trabalhadores de enfermagem de um hospital universitario do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. A coleta de dados foi realizada em 2009, utilizando-se as versoes brasileiras do Indice de Capacidade para o Trabalho e da Job Stress Scale e, para a analise dos dados, modelos de regressao logistica. RESULTADOS: evidenciou-se prevalencias de 43,3% e de 29,7% de reducao da capacidade laboral e de alta exigencia no trabalho (alta demanda psicologica e baixo controle), respectivamente. As chances de os trabalhadores em alta exigencia apresentarem reducao da capacidade para o trabalho foram maiores e significativas quando comparados aos classificados em baixa exigencia, mesmo apos ajustes por possiveis confundidores, exceto idade e sexo. CONCLUSAO: constatou-se elevada prevalencia de reducao da capacidade laboral. A evidencia alerta para a necessidade de investigacao e analise detalhada dos aspectos psicossociais, relacionados ao processo de saude/adoecimento dos trabalhadores de enfermagem.OBJECTIVE to evaluate the association between psychological demands, control over the work and the reduction of work ability of nursing professionals. CONCLUSION a high prevalence of reduced work ability was observed. This evidence indicates the need for investigation and detailed analysis of the psychosocial aspects of the professionals with regard to the health/disease process of nursing professionals.

Produção científica sobre os distúrbios psíquicos menores a partir do self report questionnarie

Objective: to know the scientific production published in Brazil in electronic databases on Minor Psychiatric Disorders (MPD) from the Self Report Questionnaire, and to identify possible relationships between mental disorders and minor work. Methods: We performed a literature research in the following databases LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO, from the last ten years, with the key words: mental disorders, minor mental disorders, minor psychiatric disorders, and minor psychiatric problems. Results: We obtained 41 studies, 38 scientific articles and three dissertations. It is observed a publication increase from 2004 (2.4%) to 2005 (14.6%). The journal with the largest number of publications was “Reports in Public Health” (24.4%). The studies investigated people aged greater than or equal to 14 years (48.8%); health workers (19.5%), workers from other areas (19.5%) and students (12.2%). Conclusion: It was evidenced that minor psychiatric disorders are present in several populations from our country’s different regions, pointing to the need for further studies investigating the association between MPD and working conditions.

PERFIL DOS ACIDENTES DE TRABALHO PUBLICADOS EM ESTUDOS BRASILEIROS

Objetivo: tracar o perfil das publicacoes brasileiras sobre acidentes de trabalho no periodo de 2004 a 2010. Metodo: revisao integrativa dos estudos publicados online , utilizando-se a palavra-chave “acidente de trabalho”. A busca foi realizada no banco de dados da SCIELO, BDENF e LILACS, entre julho e agosto de 2010. Atraves da similaridade de conteudos, os estudos foram agrupados em tematicas. Resultados: Os resultados apontam para tres temas centrais: caracteristicas dos acidentes de trabalho, prevencao dos acidentes/tratamento adotado e subnotificacao dos registros. O acidente tipico foi o predominante; a enfermagem foi a profissao mais pesquisada; os instrumentos perfurocortantes e material biologico foram os principais agentes causadores de acidentes; a lavagem do local foi a conduta mais adotada apos o acidente; e a subnotificacao foi elevada. Conclusao: Investimentos tanto por parte das instituicoes quanto dos trabalhadores sao necessarios de forma a promover mais saude e reduzir acidentes nos ambientes laborais.

Relationship between work ability in nursing and minor psychological disorders

Estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la asociacion entre trastornos psiquicos menores y la reduccion de la capacidad de trabajo en los profesionales de enfermeria. Estudio epidemiologico transversal con 498 (84,1%) profesionales de un hospital universitario en el Estado de Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Fueron utilizadas versiones brasilenas del Indice de Capacidad de Trabajo y del Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20, con el analisis descriptivo y multivariado. La prevalencia de los trastornos psiquicos menores y la reduccion de la capacidad de trabajo fueron 33,7 % y 43,3 %, respectivamente. Los analisis mostraron que los profesionales con sospecha de trastornos psiquicos menores tuvieron dos veces mas posibilidades de tener la capacidad de trabajo reducida comparados con los de sin sospecha de trastornos psiquicos menores. Se concluye que existe una asociacion positiva entre trastornos psiquicos menores y reduccion de la capacidad de trabajo en los profesionales investigados. Se necesitan medidas para disminuir las exigencias mentales y que potencialicen la capacidad para el trabajo.This study aimed to evaluate the association between minor psychological disorders and the reduction of work capacity of nursing professionals. Epidemiological study (cross-sectional) involving 498 (84.1%) nursing professionals at a university hospital in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. We used the Brazilian versions of the Work Ability Index and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20, with descriptive and multivariate analysis. The prevalence of minor psychological disorders and the reduction of work ability corresponded to 33.7% and 43.3%, respectively. The analyses adjusted due to confounding factors showed that nursing professionals with suspected minor psychological disorders were twice as likely to have their work ability reduced when compared to those without suspected minor psychological disorders. It is concluded that there is a positive association between minor psychological disorders and reduced work ability among the investigated professionals. Prevalência de distúrbios psíquicos menores em agentes socioeducadores do Rio Grande do Sul

OBJECTIVE To determine the prevalence and factors associated with minor psychiatric disorders (MPD) in socio-educational agents. METHOD It is a cross-sectional study with 381 socio-educational agents the Centers for Socio-Educational Services in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The Brazilian versions of the Scale of Demand-control-social support at work and the Self Reporting Questionnaire-20 have been applied. RESULTS The results showed a prevalence of suspicion MPD of 50.1%. They showed to be related to suspicion of MPD : being female (55.7%), having age up to 44 years old (58.5%), no physical activity (57.4%), do not have time for leisure (75%), make use of medication (61.4%), require medical attention (56.9%) and psychological counseling (72.7%), not being satisfied with the workplace (61.7%) and need for time off from work (65.6%). CONCLUSION The study provides important data about the mental health of agents, showing the need for the involvement of managers and of the health service of workers health in planning actions to promote health of these workers.

Psychosocial stress and minor psychiatric disorders among Agentes Socioeducadores

OBJECTIVE to ascertain the association between psychosocial stress and the occurrence of Minor Psychiatric Disorders in agentes socioeducadores. METHOD a cross-sectional study with 381 agentes socioeducadores from the Centros de Atendimento Socioeducativo in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2011. Brazilian versions of the social demand-control-support at work scale were used, and of the Self Reporting Questionnaire-20. RESULTS the prevalence of minor psychiatric disorders was 50.1%. The chances of being classified with such a disorder were higher in the high strain work quadrant (OR=2.05; CI95%=1.03-4.09) and active work quadrant (OR=1.99; CI95%=1.09-3.63) when compared to that of low strain, after adjustment for potentially confusing factors. CONCLUSION there is a positive association between psychosocial stress (high strain and active work) and minor psychiatric disorders among agentes socioeducadores. In order to prevent mental illness among these workers, the planning of health promotion actions is necessary.OBJETIVO: verificar a associacao entre estresse psicossocial e a ocorrencia de Disturbios Psiquicos Menores em agentes socioeducadores. METODO: estudo transversal com 381 agentes socioeducadores dos Centros de Atendimento Socioeducativo do Rio Grande do Sul, em 2011. Utilizaram-se as versoes brasileiras da escala de demanda-controle-apoio social no trabalho e do Self-Reporting Questionnaire 20 (SRQ-20). RESULTADOS: a prevalencia de disturbio psiquico menor foi de 50,1%. As chances de ser classificado com tal disturbio foram maiores no quadrante trabalho em alta exigencia (OR=2,05; IC95%=1,03-4,09) e trabalho ativo (OR=1,99; IC95%=1,09-3,63), quando comparados ao de baixa exigencia, apos ajuste por potenciais fatores de confusao. CONCLUSAO: ha associacao positiva entre estresse psicossocial (alta exigencia e trabalho ativo) e disturbios psiquicos menores em agentes socioeducadores. Faz-se necessario o planejamento de acoes de promocao a saude, a fim de prevenir o adoecimento mental desses trabalhadores.

Avaliação do grau de dependência de cuidados de enfermagem dos pacientes internados em pronto-socorro

Objective: To identify the level of dependency of nursing care in patients admitted in the Emergency Service. Method: Cross-sectional study, approaching 144 patients hospitalized for six or more days in the Emergency Service of a university hospital inRio Grandedo Sul. The assessment instrument applied was Perroca’s Patients Assessment System. Results: 44% of the participants were classified as intermediate care need. Highest average score of the critical indexes happened in body care and locomotion. Regarding specialties, General Surgery and Infectious Diseases had higher percentage for minimal care; Traumatology for intermediate semi-intensive Care, and Neurology for intensive care. Conclusions: the findings provide information for managerial decisions in nursing. New studies might aggregate more information for planning nursing assistance in the Emergency Service.

Job stress in agents at the socio-educational service centers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul

The study was both to understand the association of work stress, socio-demographic and labor characteristics, habits and working conditions of the Socio-educational agents in the state of Rio Grande do Sul Brazil. It was a cross-sectional study with 881 agents of the Socio-educational Service Centers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The Brazilian version of the Job Stress Scale for assessment of work stress has been applied. Were classified in a situation of high strain 19.2% of the agents. The following factors were related to job stress, the need for counseling lack of leisure time, day shift work, dissatisfaction with the workplace, the need for absence from work due to health problems and insufficient scale work. There is a need to further research working conditions and execution of Occupational Health Service acting in order to minimize the effects of psychological demands at work of a socio-educational agentEstudo que teve por objetivo verificar a associacao entre estresse no trabalho, caracteristicas sociodemograficas, laborais, habitos e condicoes de saude dos agentes socioeducadores do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo transversal com 381 agentes dos Centros de Atendimento Socioeducativo do Rio Grande do Sul. Utilizou-se a versao brasileira da Job Stress Scale , para avaliacao do estresse no trabalho. Foram classificados, em situacao de alta exigencia no trabalho, 19,2% dos agentes.
