Peter Michalik; Ján Štofa; Iveta Zolotová

Big Data is a huge phenomenon of last days. Number of applications using this concept is still increasing and area of implementation is still wider and wider. There are different examples such as transport, health-care, industry or education. This work covers just the field of education or universitys environment. Purpose of this work is to identify Big Data sources from universitys environment and also design of procedure how to work with them. Paper also shows possible using concept of Big Data, but does not show what types of analyses should be performed to improve education process. It means that the main benefit of this work is design of architecture for this problem from the technical perspective. In addition, there are some specific software applications that can be deployed to solve this problem.

Using a Software Tool in Forecasting: a Case Study of Sales Forecasting Taking into Account Data Uncertainty

Jana Fabianová; Peter Kačmáry; Vieroslav Molnár; Peter Michalik

Abstract Forecasting is one of the logistics activities and a sales forecast is the starting point for the elaboration of business plans. Forecast accuracy affects the business outcomes and ultimately may significantly affect the economic stability of the company. The accuracy of the prediction depends on the suitability of the use of forecasting methods, experience, quality of input data, time period and other factors. The input data are usually not deterministic but they are often of random nature. They are affected by uncertainties of the market environment, and many other factors. Taking into account the input data uncertainty, the forecast error can by reduced. This article deals with the use of the software tool for incorporating data uncertainty into forecasting. Proposals are presented of a forecasting approach and simulation of the impact of uncertain input parameters to the target forecasted value by this case study model. The statistical analysis and risk analysis of the forecast results is carried out including sensitivity analysis and variables impact analysis.

Analysis of data from the monitoring environment to improve IT processes

Peter Michalik; Simona Polačková; Iveta Zolotová

This article describes the design, comparison and evaluation of predictive models from the area of monitoring data on the basis of CRISP-DM and RadpidMiner technology, for the purpose of improving IT processes in the company. These models have been created on a sample of real data from the monitoring of IT systems in one of the largest companies in Slovakia. Article defines the detailed description and evaluation of created models, which represents only one phase of this research. This means that the other phases are only mentioned - understanding and editing of data, visualization and statistical analysis, along with modeling process itself. Predictive models generated by linear regression and ARIMA models are described in detail in this article. These models achieved during research are a huge benefit for companies, since they can predict the future value of individual transactions, and thus take the necessary measures to make the right decisions in order to improve quality of services.

Durability Analysis for Selected Cutting Tools in Machining Process of Steel 16MoV6-3

Ján Duplák; Michal Hatala; Peter Michalik

Durability of cutting tool defines lifetime of this cutting tool and it determines its suitability for select technological operation. Technical science defines a lot of different factors, that they may be cause of shorter cutting tool lifetime. For increase cutting tool durability is necessary maximally possible elimination of these factors. Determination of cutting tool durability is very important, because provides comprehensive information how to determine appropriate technological conditions for selected cutting tool. In engineering is for determination of cutting tools durability used T-vc dependence. Durability of cutting tools is defined in standard ISO 3685. In standard ISO 3685 is defined T-vc dependence for different cutting materials and standard included process evaluation of tool durability for cutting materials made of high speed steel, sintered carbide and cutting ceramic. Specification of cutting tools durability in machining process of steel 16MoV6-3 is very important for economics of small and medium-sized enterprises, because cutting tool durability is factor that significantly affects the budget of these enterprises. Standard ISO 3685 contains instructions how to create T-vc dependence for cutting tools. In this standard are only instructions how to create T-vc dependence according to Mr. Taylor. The article describes process how to create durability dependence for cutting tools made of sintered carbide in machining process of 16MoV6-3 by means of T-vc dependence.

Better IT services by means of data mining

Michal Vadovsky; Peter Michalik; Iveta Zolotová; Jan Paralic

This article contains description how to create prediction models for more efficient utilization of running IT resources. Prediction model creation is presented as one of the most important steps within the process of the knowledge discovery. Presented models were created based on real data from a local IT company by means of the programming language R. This article also marginally covers the steps, which are to be carried out before the actual modelling. The steps to mention are the following: available data understanding and their subsequent preprocessing for further work, individual attributes analysis using data visualization by means of graphs and tracking certain behavior and correlations in data. First of all, designing models using linear and multiple regression will be followed in detail. Then, the methods of new values prediction will be described using the R language. Finally, the different types of prediction models will be considered using appropriate indicators. The results obtained should assist and simplify the methods of the knowledge discovery in certain enterprises based on the available databases, and also help to choose the most suitable prediction models learning method.

Design of models for the selection of the suitable platform in the area of data analysis

Peter Michalik; Iveta Zolotová

This paper deals with the design of models that form the basis for Decision Support System (DSS) supporting suitable solutions of data analysis. DSS will be in the form of web application in order to bring the most practical solution. The design of these algorithms is only one of the five stages of the research in field of data analysis. That means, the other stages will be described in this article only marginally - mapping the currents situation in this IT field, identification of parameters entering into the designed models, implementation of web application and verification of DSS using case studies. For each of these areas, a separate paper will be published later. Models presented in this article are ranked from the simplest to the most complex, in each case, the algorithm is demonstrated on a model example. DSS itself, which is the output of all research should facilitate decision of organizations about selecting a suitable analytical environment, application or platform. In other words, if the company has some amount of data and does not know what to do next. The only one thing the organization knows is the fact that data are a source of knowledge and time precious.
