Suely de Souza Baptista; Ieda de Alencar Barreira

This historical-critical study discusses the interrelations between the Brazilian Nursing Association and the baccalaureate nursing courses in the Brazilian society. The insertion of nursing in Brazilian university began in the late 1930’s. Such a movement was favored by the federal policy of higher education in the mid-twentieth century and it was accomplished by the University Reform of 1968. The achievement of a higher degree in scientification of nursing, as a mastery of knowledge field, had become the biggest challenge the field of nursing had to face in order to consolidate its reputation in the international and national scientific community. O movimento de reconsideração do ensino e da pesquisa em História da Enfermagem

Ieda de Alencar Barreira; Suely de Souza Baptista

The thematic focus of this work is a call for reconsidering Education and Research on Nursing History (NH). Such movement is deemed a late manifestation in a process of improvement in Nursing knowledge, mediated by the development of stricto sensu Postgraduate programs, by the end of the 20th century, when a wakening of the Nursing area was seen due to a need to search for balance between technical and scientific competence and the ability for social criticism and professional self-assessment. An analysis of the possibilities and limitations of education and research in NH is presented, as well as its contribution to the advancement of the profession, and implications from understanding NH as an interdisciplinary field are discussed. The thematic focus of this work is a call for reconsidering Education and Research on Nursing History (NH). O movimento associativo das enfermeiras diplomadas brasileiras na 1ª metade do século 20

Ieda de Alencar Barreira; Jussara Sauthier; Suely de Souza Baptista

The present study is a socio-historical research. It discusses the association of trained nurses in Brazil, which was represented by opponent groups, and the struggle of these groups in introducing their positions and viewpoints in the professional organizations. The investigation focuses the period of time between the foundation of the Brazilian Association of Nursing (ABEn), in 1926, until the first half of the twentieth century. Despite the political and doctrinal levels, which guided nursing strategies to fortify their positions in this environment, the articulation of opponent groups in the achievement of common professional objectives promoted the regulation and redefinition of the nursing profession. The present study is a socio-historical research.
