Changes occurred in the life of teenage fathers and the meaning of fatherhood and motherhood for these adolescents were investigated. Eight participants sixteen to twenty-one years old were interviewed with directions focusing: changes arising of paternity; meanings of fatherhood and motherhood; parental practices. Among the changes referred figured the loss of freedom and the insertion in the job market. For them, to be a father means, mainly, to work to provide the needs of the child and also to educate, give comfort and attention. The mother is the one who cares and caresses, makes sacrifices and is the most important figure in the childs life. The most mentioned parental practices were related with leisure and play. The data indicate the permanence of a strong link with the traditional parenting models, although an emergence of significant affective relations between parents and children was also detected.

The reproductive technologies and the social representations of biological children. Social representations of biological child in couples who underwent reproductive treatment were studied. Our objectives were to analyze the life trajectory of the couple from the moment infertility was diagnosed and identify the social representations of biological children. Five couples of Great Vitoria (Espirito Santo State, Brazil) were interviewed and none of them had success with respect to pregnancy. We used semi-structured interviews, individually taken. The script followed the same pattern for both the man and the woman, including items about the acceptance of the infertility diagnosis, the kind of treatment, the meaning of motherhood, fatherhood, marriage and biological child. The analysis of the results pointed to a strengthening of the bond in the marriage after the acceptance of the infertility diagnosis and highlighted the importance that couples attribute to the biological child. The elements of social representation which appear prominently were: “sangue do meu sangue” (expression equivalent to “my own flesh and blood”), progeny, physical resemblance, social pressure.

The present study aims to analyze social representations (SR) of conjugality among remarried couples. Two focus groups were held, one group with women and one group with men. All participants have at least one child from their first marriage and live at a considered middle or high-middle class neighborhood. The data were analyzed by discourse analyze. The results show conjugality SR is organized as a representational system, because the elements, that are articulated in order to form it, are considered social objects. The SR observed is organized differently by men and women. Also, it was observed in remarriage: 1) high complexity degree among family relations; 2) children, on parents point of view, deal with the new family dynamic nicely; 3) tendency of more equal conjugal relations; 4) men seem to need a conjugal partnership to organize their emotional, family and professional life.

This article presents the results of a study of the type before and after training in Shelter with Risk classification compared to the humanization of social representations of health among 111 health professionals in an emergency hospital. Data collection was performed using the technique of free evocation and analysis was done using the EVOC software. The results showed changes in the symbolic meaning attributed to terms inducers towards incorporation of the right perspective in the representation of the Unified Health System, the translation of Humanization in health as Shelter, and the progression of understanding the Shelter, the humanistic focus to the qualification of processes of care of the users demand at emergencies. The results indicate that the differences found in the core before and after training were due to an apprenticeship, which based in peripheral elements, was able to question the core elements and interchange between the central and peripheral system, recognizing the functional complementarity between these two systems and the relationships between representations and practices. However, the method does not assert the persistence of such changes in the social representations of the objects studied in depth or measure the changes in daily practices.

This study aimed to identify the social representations of health and disease, as well as the main reasons for seeking medical care among young men (aged 18 and 25) in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte/MG/Brazil. 100 subjects were interviewed. The data were submitted to recall and content analysis. The analysis of the results obtained indicate a possible relationship, on one hand, among health, maintenance and prevention, through the central elements of well-being and quality of life linked to the demand for medical care in clinics and, on another hand, among disease, repair and suppression of suffering by seeking medical care in hospitals. Such data may help guide suggestions for actions directed to the health of young men, highlighting the need for specific approaches related to disease prevention and health restoration.

The present study is a theoretical essay about the phenomenon of love in romantic relationships in the field of psychology and social psychology. The first theories on love in psychology are presented. After, three theories of social psychology are discussed in greater depth: love styles, by John Alan Lee, the adult attachment theory, by Phillip Shaver, Cindy Hazan and Donna Bradshaw, and the triangular theory of love, by Robert J. Sternberg. The contributions of each theory on theoretical, empirical and methodological issues are presented. Two aspects were observed: that love is a complex phenomenon and the presence of theoretical and methodological differences among the three theories. The complexity is observed in theoretical approach diversity and in research results. Theoretically, there is disagreement on how love is conceived. Methodologically, there is a predominance of quantitative research with different scales. It is observed that further investigation on the theme is needed, as well as on the scales adopted. Therefore, the love field of study is still in process of evolution, so further research may contribute to this field. It is suggested that it is important to study the interaction of culture, values and beliefs in the experience of love and to use more qualitative approaches in the research about love.

The aim of this study was identifying the methodological strategies used in Social Psychology research in Brazil. By resorting to the term Social Psychology as an index search factor, a literature review was conducted in papers published in Psychology periodicals indexed at Scielo and Pepsic between 2007 and 2011; and in dissertations and theses abstracts indexed at the CAPES Database from 1987 to 1991, and from 2007 to 2011. Altogether, 877 works were analyzed through SPSS. Results indicated that the main data collection and data analysis techniques were: interviews, associated with content and discourse analysis; questionnaires, analyzed mainly through content analysis and descriptive statistics; and inventories and scales, analyzed through descriptive and multivariate statistics. The most frequently investigated objects were generational groups and health/disease processes. The study points to the need for methodological triangulation in the production of knowledge, aiming to overcome qualitative and quantitative false dichotomies in research methodology.

This study was guided by reflections centred n the relation between the elaboration of the representational field and the process of social identification, in relation to rurality and urbanity. Two objects, which are part of the relevant social categories and their related social groups, “rural people” and “city people”, were utilized for this end. The corpora of data, which was processed by using the EVOC-2003 software, was collected from interviews with 200 members, representing four generations of a rural community, and aged from 07 to 81 years old, by means of free association. The results indicated that representations of the ingroup are based on positive stereotypes while representations of the outgroup reflect a negative image of townspeople, a dynamic which suggests an evaluative field supported by the ideology of, respectively, a group with humanitarian values as opposed to a group identified with the capitalist values. The function of the representational field in maintaining the positive social identity of the rural group is discussed.

The objective of the present work was to investigate the dynamics of the conjugate relationships after the occurrence of an Acut Infarction of Miocardial in one of the spouses, aiming to identify possible alterations in the interaction and in each spouses role. Six couples (30 to 53 yeaars marriage) were interviewed: 03 men and 03 women who had had heart attacks (occurrence among 1,5 to 8 years). Two programs were used, in the individual interviews, one for the patient and other for the spouse. In these interviews we aimed to know about the personal iteractions, the after-infarct conjugate relationships and the gender differences. The content analysis of the interviews evidenced that it was prevailed in the conjugate relationships aspects, remember us to the traditional gender role, although the married dynamics has suffered some changes coming from the impact of the infarct, for example: the increase of sharing domestic tasks, men became more domestic, women began to participate in the financial administration, larger affective relactions among the couple. Such considerations point out that the occurrence of the infarct was assessed positively by the women in function of the alterations of roles and negatively for the men due to the limitations and dependence caused by the disease.

This study investigated the representations of mothers helped by the Tutoring Counsel about “problem children”; the educational practices developed in facing the problem Eleven mothers of adolescents participated in the study, with children who presented some kind of problem – involvement with drugs, being at the street situation and/or practicing minor transgressions. We utilized an interview script with an evocation question, open questions. The material was analyzed using Bardin s thematic analysis. The results show that the representation of the mothers presents elements as: uncontrollable, weak mind and rebel. The causes seem to be centered in the personal and internal characteristics; friendships and the environment where they live; lack of control; need of acquirement of socially valued goods; and religious questions. The educational practices, though, are based on dialogue and advice. However, the mothers evaluate that the only practice capable of solving the problem of their children in internship. Nevertheless, what happens is that in most cases the application of this measure does not fall under the Tutoring Counsel capabilities, creating a gap between what is sought by the mothers and the measures applied by the Counsel in order to solve the problem.
