Apoio e rede social em enfermagem familiar: revendo conceitos

Iara Cristina da Silva Pedro; Semiramis Melani Melo Rocha; Lucila Castanheira Nascimento

Social support and social network concepts are resources applicable to Family Nursing, as they are aimed at improving families’ quality of life, and also at promoting, strengthening and maintaining their well-being. This study aimed to reflect on the main social network and social support concepts, relating them with Family Nursing, with a view to their application in nursing research and practice. We conclude that there is a lack of consensus about these concepts and that further criteria are needed for their use. In using Family Nursing, researchers must select the most relevant social network and social support concepts in literature to achieve the proposed objectives.

In this exploratory and descriptive research, we identified the meaning of religion and spirituality in the experience of patients at a public health service for treatment of HIV/AIDS in a Brazilian upcountry town. Eight participants were selected through theoretical sampling. Data were collected through semistructured interviews, and analyzed by means of qualitative content analysis. The emerging themes were religion: a path to support, and God is everything. Religion, as a path that leads patients to different sources of support, included exploration of different churches, acknowledgment of guilt, and finding strength to cope with the disease, rationalization of the disease process, meeting other churchgoers, and finding God and faith. God, an important source of support, was present in prayers, in the belief in healing through faith, and in the feeling of comfort and relief. Because spirituality and religion were seen as important sources of support, in this study we that health professionals include these aspects in care planning.

Results: In the opinion of those escorting companions, the colorful environment, the toys and the leisure activities, offered during the administration of chemotherapy, has positive influence on the quality of treatment and the state of child welfare. Despite the very positive evaluation of the service, were mentioned areas requiring improvement, particularly in relation to the attention care. Conclusion: The companions escorting the children perceived that the happy environment collaborated on the wellbeing of children in treatment.

The objective of this study was to understand, from the perspective of health professionals, the meaning of playing/toys in the waiting room of a childrens outpatient clinic. Semi-structured interviews were performed with 11 workers. A quantitative analysis of the data was performed around two themes: acknowledging the importance of playing/toys and dealing with limitations. Playing is seen as a care strategy towards children, as it alleviates the waiting time in this environment, changes behavior in a positive way, and values the childrens development process, besides improving the communication and interaction with health professionals. It is, however, necessary for the hospital to have adequate physical structure, allied to the health professionals and to the management team, which are sensitive regarding the inclusion of new care strategies, such as playing, with a view to humanize childrens health care.O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender, na perspectiva dos profissionais de saude, o significado do uso do brincar/brinquedo em sala de espera de um ambulatorio infantil.

AIMS To analyze and synthesize knowledge concerning sexuality in adult burn victims through an integrative literature review. METHOD Two researchers independently searched six electronic databases (PUBMED, LILACS, ISI Web of Science, PSYCINFO, CINAHL and EMBASE) and also performed a hand search using the following descriptors, in different combinations: burn, sexuality, gender identity, sexual behavior and sexual factors, in order to identify the articles published in English, Portuguese or Spanish, in the last 20 years. A total of 1781 articles were found and 22 were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS The findings were organized into two categories that influence sexuality: (1) studies where the main purpose was to assess sexuality in burn victims; (2) studies that indirectly assess sexuality. CONCLUSION The synthesis of the knowledge concerning sexuality in burn victims showed that sexual dysfunction can be related to the younger ages, TBSA > 20%, burns on the genitalia and on exposed areas, prolonged length of hospital stay, avoidance coping, and mental disorders. The multidisciplinary team should be prepared to integrate sexuality as an important variable in the continuing treatment of burn patients.
