Ana Luísa Petersen Cogo; Denise Tolfo Silveira; Eva Neri Rubim Pedro; Raquel Yurika Tanaka; Vanessa Menezes Catalan

This study aimed at evaluating the strategy of using conceptual maps created with the CmapTools® software in “Introduction to Anamnesis and Physical Exams in Nursing”, a distance-learning course. Twenty individuals participated in this qualitative case study. Data was obtained by means of evaluating 11 conceptual maps created by the students in the course, submitting them to descriptive statistics; through student written evaluations of the activity; and the information obtained by the focus group technique, both submitted to thematic analysis. This study identified that the students demonstrated an approximation to the main concepts needed in map creation, with a need to improve their critical thinking expression. The students evaluated the activity positively, in that it allows for synthesis of the themes being studied and has future applications. Creating conceptual maps together with nursing students by using software support was considered important. DESCRIPTORS: Nursing. Education, nursing. Education, distance. Educational technology.

This documental case study was performed using a qualitative approach, and analyzed the dialogues of Nursing students in a context mediated by an educational chat in a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The data consisted of eight discussions among students, professors and monitors of the Rio Grande do Sul Federal University College of Nursing on the TelEduc® VLE chat on the activity called Virtual Client. The data were categorized using NVivo® software; and the information was analyzed using the Content Analysis technique. The results revealed feelings such as anxiety, fear and motivation towards hospital practice, as well as the dichotomous position of students regarding the proposed activity: some enjoyed the virtual discussions, while others preferred having discussions in person. This article presents recommendations for using educational chats in Nursing education. This documental case study was performed using a qualitative approach, and analyzed the dialogues of Nursing students in a context mediated by an educational chat in a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Ana Luísa Petersen Cogo; Eva Neri Rubim Pedro; Denise Tolfo Silveira; Ana Paula Scheffer Schell da Silva; Rosa Helena Kreutz Alves; Vanessa Menezes Catalan

This paper describes a development project of digital learning objects in nursing, and the evaluation of their use by teachers and undergraduate nursing students. The strategies for their development were composed of the following stages: conceptual modeling, development of instructional materials, implementation in a virtual learning environment, and evaluation. This is an ongoing study and preliminary results demonstrate that teachers and students evaluated the design and the content of the nursing digital learning objects satisfactorily, but demonstrate difficulties in using them. The results point to the impact of innovation through the consolidation of the use of educational technologies integrated to the teaching of nursing, as well as a support program for teachers. This paper describes a development project of digital learning objects in nursing, and the evaluation of their use by teachers and undergraduate nursing students. The creation of digital learning objects for the teaching of Nursing has involved a staff of professors and undergraduate students at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, from their pedagogical and technological design up to their evaluation. The purpose of the present quantitative study was to verify the adequacy of the objects hypertext, educational game, and simulation concerning oxygen therapy, according to the nursing students at the fourth stage of the undergraduate course. Forty-five students, who answered a questionnaire in the periods of 2005/1 and 2005/2, after the approval of the research project by the Ethical Committee, constituted the sample. The data, statistically analyzed by using the software SPSS 13.5, revealed that the use of digital material was positive and reinforced the student’s importance as active participants in the learning process.
